Weekly Prompt-Week 3

Weekly Prompt
Week # 3

1. I am looking for a book by Laurell K. Hamilton. I just read the third book in the Anita Blake series and I can’t figure out which one comes next!
The Lunatic Cafe is the 4th in the Vampire Hunter series by Hamilton. After searching in Fantastic fiction I located this title.

2. What have I read recently? Well, I just finished this great book by Barbara Kingsolver, Prodigal Summer. I really liked the way it was written, you know, the way she used language. I wouldn't mind something a bit faster paced though.
I would recommend Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood, because it also speaks to environmental issues. A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley also addresses the importance of living off the land.

3.  I like reading books set in different countries. I just read one set in China, could you help me find one set in Japan? No, not modern – historical. I like it when the author describes it so much it feels like I was there!
I would recommend either Sayonara by James Michener or Shogun by James Clavell. Both of these historical novels are set in Japan and both of these authors are masters of descriptive writing and paint vivid pictures of Japan.

4. I read this great mystery by Elizabeth George called Well-Schooled in Murder and I loved it. Then my dentist said that if I liked mysteries I would probably like John Sandford, but boy was creepy I couldn't finish it! Do you have any suggestions?
Readers who enjoy Elizabeth George may also enjoy mysteries by Deborah Crombie. I would recommend A Share in Death which is the first book in the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James series. The setting is similar, as it takes place in Yorkshire. Any mysteries by Dorothy Sayers would also be good recommendations as these choices are less intense than John Sandford's mysteries. I would of course also recommend any of the other Thomas Lynley series by Elizabeth George.

5. My husband has really gotten into zombies lately. He’s already read The Walking Dead and World War Z, is there anything else you can recommend?
I would recommend Day by Day Armegeddon by J. L. Bourne. It is the 1st in the series and is highly recommended on Goodreads when looking for titles in that genre. Blackout by Mira Grant is another recommendation in this genre.

When I am searching for books to read I check out Goodreads and most recently LibraryThing. I also read book reviews, particularly in Booklist, Kirkus, and School Library Journal as well as best seller lists and award winners.  I always listen to the recommendations of friends, particularly those who are librarians!
